Job Title: Sous Chef
Location: Habitas AlUla, Saudi Arabia
Department: Culinary & Beverage Operations
Reports To: Executive Chef / Executive Manager
Job Summary:
The Sous Chef at Habitas AlUla plays a pivotal leadership role in managing the daily operations of the kitchen and bar, ensuring the highest standards of culinary and beverage excellence, guest satisfaction, team development, and operational efficiency. This role supports the Executive Chef in delivering a world-class dining experience that reflects Habitas' ethos of sustainability, wellness, and local culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Kitchen Operations:
Supervise and coordinate the activities of all kitchen staff, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely service.
Oversee the preparation and presentation of food items, adhering to Habitas’ culinary standards and brand identity.
Work closely with the Executive Chef in menu development, costing, and seasonal adjustments using local and sustainable ingredients.
Ensure all food safety and hygiene regulations are maintained at the highest level (HACCP compliance).
Monitor inventory, purchasing, and cost control to maximize efficiency and reduce waste.
Bar Operations:
Collaborate with the bar team to curate and maintain a high-quality beverage program that complements the food offerings.
Support in training bartenders and bar staff on product knowledge, presentation, and guest interaction.
Ensure beverage preparation areas are maintained according to health and safety regulations.
Monitor stock levels of beverages, glassware, and bar tools, placing timely orders when necessary.
Team Leadership:
Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring culinary and bar team members.
Create and maintain a positive, collaborative, and disciplined work environment.
Conduct regular team meetings and briefings to align on goals and service standards.
Provide feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations to staff.
Guest Experience:
Ensure a seamless connection between kitchen, bar, and service teams to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
Be present during service hours to interact with guests when needed and gather feedback.
Handle guest concerns with professionalism and urgency.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum 5 years of culinary experience with at least 2 years in a leadership/supervisory role.
Previous experience in high-end resorts or boutique hospitality environments preferred.
Strong knowledge of international cuisine, local Saudi ingredients, and modern culinary trends.
Experience in beverage operations, mixology, and bar team management is highly desirable.
Food safety certification (HACCP or equivalent).
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Passion for sustainability, wellness, and delivering immersive guest experiences.
Work Environment:
Full-time position requiring flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Located in AlUla, Saudi Arabia – a remote, desert resort setting.
