Job Summary: The Traffic Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the construction and operation phases of the Bahrain International Airport Access Improvement Project (Stage-3, Phase-1). This includes developing and implementing traffic management plans, conducting safety audits, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive traffic management plans (TMPs) for all phases of the project, including temporary diversions, lane closures, and detours, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow.
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and project specifications.
- Collaborate with the design and construction teams to incorporate safety features into the design and construction of roadways, bridges, culverts, and other infrastructure.
- Ensure appropriate signage, traffic control devices (barriers, signals, etc.), and road markings are in place and maintained according to standards.
- Coordinate with relevant authorities (e.g., Ministry of Works, Traffic Police) to obtain necessary approvals and ensure effective communication regarding traffic management plans.
- Investigate traffic-related incidents and accidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure pedestrian safety through the design and implementation of safe crossings, walkways, and other pedestrian facilities.
- Monitor traffic flow and adjust traffic management strategies as needed to optimize safety and efficiency.
- Ensure that construction activities comply with environmental regulations, including measures to prevent water contamination and minimize noise and dust pollution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation or Highway Engineering or a related field with a focus on traffic engineering and safety.
- Minimum 10 years experience in traffic safety engineering, preferably on road and bridge construction projects.
- Knowledge of traffic management principles, safety standards, and regulations.
- Familiarity with traffic modeling software and safety analysis tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working on projects in Bahrain or the Gulf region is an asset.
