Job Title: Senior Sustainability Engineer

Role Summary:
The Senior Sustainability Engineer will play a critical role within the construction supervision consultant’s team, responsible for overseeing and guiding the implementation of all sustainability-related requirements during the construction phase. The position ensures that the contractor’s construction activities are aligned with the project’s sustainability goals, applicable green building rating systems, and contractual KPIs. This includes active coordination, training, compliance auditing, documentation review, and continuous liaison with the project’s main Sustainability Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mobilization & Construction Handover:
- Lead the sustainability handover meeting with the contractor’s sustainability team to communicate project-specific sustainability requirements, targets, and deliverables.
- Conduct training workshops with the contractor team to:
- Clarify applicable sustainability credits and corresponding technical requirements.
- Define documentation requirements and establish proper documentation protocols.
- Ensure understanding of the project’s multi-building approach and the relevant application of credits.
- Agree on sustainability roles and responsibilities among stakeholders.
- Introduce and monitor the Sustainability Procurement Protocol.
- Ensure timely registration of the project under the applicable sustainability rating system.
2. Sustainability Supervision During Construction:
- Prepare and disseminate a comprehensive Responsibility Matrix, summarizing:
- Applicable credits,
- Technical and documentation requirements,
- Assigned roles and accountability.
- Coordinate with relevant design and construction teams during shop drawings development to integrate sustainability requirements.
- Oversee and verify compliance with sustainability requirements in all material submittals and procurement processes.
- Monitor implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and Waste Management Plan on-site, ensuring alignment with project sustainability targets.
- Maintain and update a detailed Credit Tracker throughout the construction period to ensure timely achievement and documentation of credits.
- Conduct periodic Sustainability Audits as per the requirements of the applicable construction rating protocol (e.g., LEED, Mostadam, etc.).
- Review final credit documentation packages and submit them to the main Sustainability Engineer for validation and submission.
- Provide continuous follow-up until credit approvals are obtained.
Site Presence and Support:
- Conduct Daily Site Visits to monitor compliance and provide hands-on guidance.
- Offer full-time technical support to the supervision team in addressing ongoing sustainability issues.
- Collaborate closely with the contractor’s appointed Sustainability Engineer and any other relevant specialists to ensure the smooth implementation of sustainability protocols.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Architecture, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of 10–15 years of relevant experience in sustainability roles within large-scale construction supervision projects.
- Professional accreditation in at least one sustainability rating system (e.g., LEED AP, Mostadam, GSAS, BREEAM, etc.).
- Proven experience in managing sustainability compliance during construction, with hands-on knowledge of documentation, audits, and contractor coordination.
- Strong understanding of regional environmental regulations and project-specific sustainability requirements.
