Job Title: Estimation Engineer – Dismantling & Demolition

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Estimation Engineer to join our team and support the estimating department for dismantling and demolition projects. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of demolition techniques, and the ability to prepare accurate cost estimates, quantities, and schedules for a variety of demolition and dismantling projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Bidding:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for demolition projects, including labor, equipment, materials, waste disposal, and subcontractor services.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and scope of work to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.
- Analyze and evaluate the costs of demolition methods and techniques to determine the most cost-effective approach.
- Work with the Estimating Manager to develop accurate tender proposals for clients.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to gather necessary data and input for cost estimation.
Quantity Surveying & Takeoff:
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from project plans and drawings to assess required materials, labor, and equipment.
- Quantify the scope of demolition work, including hazardous material removal, structural dismantling, and waste management.
- Prepare and manage a detailed bill of quantities (BoQ) and verify that all items are accounted for in the estimate.
Risk & Value Engineering:
- Identify risks and propose mitigation strategies during the estimation phase.
- Conduct value engineering exercises to suggest cost-effective alternatives and approaches to the project while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Work with the project team to ensure that the best possible demolition methods are used while maintaining budget control.
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to obtain quotations and technical information required for estimates.
- Ensure all estimates are based on current market rates for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to assess vendor options and material pricing.
- Provide support to the project management team during the bid clarification and negotiation phase with clients.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all estimates, proposals, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and present bid packages to clients, ensuring all aspects of the demolition project are covered.
- Assist in the preparation of risk assessments and method statements for the proposed work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in cost estimation for demolition, construction, or heavy civil projects.
- Strong knowledge of demolition techniques, material handling, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
- Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements related to demolition projects.
- Proficiency in cost estimation software (e.g., Procore, Accubid, Sage Estimating, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of quantity surveying, takeoff, and cost analysis techniques.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a team environment and under tight deadlines.
Preferred Certifications:
- Chartered Status (e.g., RICS or similar) in Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering.
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Certification (for field-exposed roles).
- LEED Certification or environmental demolition training (a plus for eco-friendly demolition projects).
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits for project assessment and collaboration.
- Exposure to construction and demolition environments during site assessments.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple estimates concurrently
