JOB PURPOSE

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

You will undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities of Weapons Load Standard Cell in support of Typhoon operations and in accordance with the RSAF Typhoon maintenance policy, ensuring that all Continuing Airworthiness and Maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with BAE Systems Saudi Arabia SALAM Maintenance Organisation Exposition and associated Quality Management System.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible directly to the Armament, Egress and SE Superintendent for overseeing the conduct of competency checks on RSAF & PC Weapons Tradesman and Emergency Crews.

  • When necessary, carry out theory and practical training programs (additional, supportive and refresher training) for PC and RSAF Weapons Trade personnel. Ensuring the WT&LSC Supervisors maintain a high degree of proficiency in the following:

    • Initial certification / authorisation and the competency checks / re-authorisation of weapons trade personnel for the preparation / de preparation, loading / unloading of Typhoon munitions and associated weapons trade tasks.

    • Initial certification / authorisation and the competency checks / re-authorisation of weapons trade personnel for Crew Escape Safety Systems (CESS) maintenance tasks.

    • When necessary, make recommendations for the de-certification of Weapon Load team or member and ML1 CESS maintainers.

    • Carrying out ML1 (on aircraft) trade task as required.

    • Provide Explosive Safety training to personnel.

    • Fire Crew Safety training.

  • As mandated by Reference B and C ensure the WT&LSC Supervisors hold the following to carry out their responsibilities:

    • Qualifications: ensure they have attended an Aircraft specific training course and an Instructional Technique course.

    • Authorisation levels: ensure WT&LSC Supervisors have the appropriate authorisation levels to carry their responsibilities.

  • Ensure the WT&LSC Supervisors are trained on Typhoon CESS as well as current and future munitions. Ensure they are suitably trained, qualified and authorised to administer WT&LSC Training and Certification activities for PC and RSAF personnel.

  • Monthly, Evaluate Flight Line loading operation.

  • Monthly, Evaluate the Armament aspects of an End-of-runway (EOR) process.

  • Develop necessary tool control procedures and standardise the load team toolboxes for teams that perform the same function.

  • Make sure the load training area is maintained in line with current local policy and observing relevant RSAF regulations.

  • Maintain training munitions at ML1 standard and limitations.

  • Liaising with Aircraft Generation Flight (AGF) Weapons Trade Team Lead/Manager to review and maintain load team certifications and authorisations including the following:

    • Document weapon load team evaluations.

    • Critique each load team at the completion of the loading / unloading evaluation.

    • Maintain the load team status charts.

  • Liaising with AGF Weapons Trade Team Lead/Manager to review and maintain CESS maintainer certifications and authorisations including the following:

    • Document CESS maintainers task evaluations.

    • Critique each personnel at the completion of their CES maintenance task evaluation.

    • Maintain the CESS maintainers status charts.

  • Monitor Load Teams and CESS maintainers in the performance of their duties to enhance standardisation.

  • Provide Explosive Safety training to all personnel as required.

  • Ensure that all engineering activity is covered by the appropriate delegated authorities.

  • Ensure that all Weapon Load Training and CESS Maintainer Certifications are scheduled and carried out IAW BAES / RSAF policy.

  • Ensure FOD control measures are diligently observed.

  • Coaching, training, mentoring and knowledge transfer to BAES and RSAF personnel.

  • Ensure that all personnel engaged in activities in areas follow the correct engineering practices, observe safety precautions and that as far as is reasonably practicable ensure that no one is exposed to any unnecessary or uncontrolled risk.

  • Ensure the Safety Management Systems and Maintenance Error Management Systems are understood by staff under their direction and control.

  • Completing any other reasonable duties or requests that are made by your line management. Including supporting weapons trade tasks for the AGF, Heavy Rectifications, Scheduled Maintenance & Upgrade (SMU), HQ RSAF / ILOC / TSC, Line Technical Support (LTS) and Typhoon Training Centre (TTC) where required.

  • Carrying out reviews of relevant Technical Instructions, Instructional Specifications and providing weapons Subject Matter Expert (SME) assistance for any MEDA, Safety or Quality investigations.

  • Ensuring that post training the Ground Training Aircraft (GTA) and the immediate area or Group Shelter (GS) is left as required by the responsible Maintenance Manager.

  • Liaising with AGF Weapons Trade Team Lead/Manager to maintain ML1 trade tasks currency for all WT&LSC personnel. Where possible substituting WT&LSC for AGF weapons personnel to prevent expiry of authorisation or skill fade.

  • Liaise with RSAF Fire Department to monitor and maintain currency or arrange Fire Crew Safety Training and Certification as required.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Educated to ONC level or a recognised equivalent qualification or have relevant experience supported by formal, recorded workplace applied related training.

  • Have post qualification practical maintenance experience within operational flying aircraft environment supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training OR experience on same aircraft type.

  • Have experience in a relevant management role.

  • Demonstrate knowledge / understanding of aircraft maintenance and engineering.

  • Completion of a recognised aircraft engineering apprenticeship in industry/military or similar qualification in aircraft systems.

  • Experience working knowledge of EASA Part 145.

  • High level of interpersonal skill to co-ordinate several activities and the ability to communicate, influence and direct decision-making.

  • Typhoon Q annotation.

Desirable

  • Broad aerospace and defence company/industry knowledge.

  • An understanding of RAF and /or RSAF engineering operating procedures.

  • A track record of meeting strict deadlines without compromising standards and quality.

  • Previous experience of delivering workplace training.

  • An understanding of ESS or similar electronic based reporting system.
