Position Overview:
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing workplace safety policies and procedures. This role involves identifying potential hazards, conducting safety inspections, delivering training, and ensuring compliance with local regulations and international safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits on site.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and international safety standards.
- Conduct safety induction and training sessions for employees and contractors.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports.
- Maintain and update safety documentation, records, and reports.
- Promote a safety-first culture through awareness campaigns and toolbox talks.
- Liaise with management, employees, and regulatory authorities on safety matters.
- Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Certified Safety Officer or relevant HSE certification (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH).
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in workplace safety, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- Knowledge of risk assessment techniques, safety regulations, and emergency procedures.
- Strong observational, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to train others effectively.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
- Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
Work Environment:
- On-site role in industrial, construction, or operational facilities.
- Requires frequent site walks, inspections, and interaction with staff and contractors.
