Position Summary:
The Phlebotomist is responsible for the safe and efficient collection of blood and other specimens from patients, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and handling in accordance with NBCC’s quality and safety standards. This role plays a vital part in supporting diagnostic services and patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection, as well as other specimen collection procedures, in compliance with established protocols.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and proper labeling of specimens.
- Prepare, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory in accordance with biosafety standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized phlebotomy area.
- Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients during specimen collection.
- Follow infection control and safety guidelines at all times.
- Document all collections accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Report any issues with sample collection or patient reactions to the supervisor immediately.
- Support quality assurance initiatives and participate in training as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Diploma or certification in Phlebotomy, Nursing, or Laboratory Technology.
- Valid license/registration with the relevant health authority.
- Minimum 1–2 years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital or reference laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of specimen collection, handling, and infection control.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and in a team environment.
Work Conditions:
- Based within NBCC laboratory and/or patient care areas.
- May require flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Frequent interaction with patients of all ages and conditions.
