Job Purpose
As a draughtsman, primary job purpose within the architectural domain is to support architects and designers in creating detailed technical drawings and plans for construction projects and crucial in turning the conceptual ideas and designs of architects into workable, practical, and precise blueprints for construction teams to follow.
Key Accountability Areas
• Drafting and Design: Produce detailed technical drawings based on the direction of architects or designers. Use computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, Revit.
• Building Code Compliance: Ensure that architectural drawings and designs comply with relevant building codes, regulations, and zoning laws.
• Coordination and Collaboration: Collaborate with architects, designers to incorporate design changes, resolve conflicts, and ensure the overall integrity of the architectural project.
• Documentation: Organize and maintain architectural drawings and documents, including revisions, markups, and as-built drawings.
• Detailing and Specification: Develop detailed drawings and specifications for architectural elements, such as doors, windows, finishes, and materials.
• Construction Support: Provide support during the construction phase by responding to requests for information (RFIs), clarifying design intent, and reviewing submittals and shop drawings.
• Quality Assurance: Implementing quality assurance measures to verify the accuracy and integrity of technical drawings is a key accountability.
Role Accountability
• Technical Drawing Creation: Produce accurate and detailed technical drawings may include plans, elevations, sections, and details of buildings or structures.
• Detailing and Annotation: Ensuring that drawings are properly annotated with dimensions, notes, and symbols is crucial.
• Interpretation of Specifications: Must interpret engineering specifications, sketches, and technical documents accurately to translate them into detailed drawings.
• Drafting Software Proficiency: Proficiency in drafting software such as AutoCAD, REVIT, 3D Max for creating technical drawings efficiently and accurately and should stay updated with the latest software.
• Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintaining accurate documentation and records of all drawings, revisions, and project communications is vital for traceability and accountability.
• Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication with architectural designers & engineers, to clarify requirements, address issues, and ensure alignment throughout the design process.
• Project Coordination: Depending on the size and scope of projects, you may be involved in coordinating drawing production schedules and deadlines.
