Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Architect to join an Urban Planning Technical
Support team at an Urban Planning Department within a Local Planning Authority. The ideal
candidate will have a robust background in urban and building codes, as well as experience
with relevant permit systems. This role involves collaboration with city planners, urban
designers, engineers, and community stakeholders to enhance urban environments and
ensure regulatory compliance. This position is a yearly-contract based, with an option for
renewal.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Compliance: Assess architectural plans and designs for adherence to local
building codes, zoning laws, and urban design standards.
Permit Processing: Conduct the review and processing of building permits, ensuring
all documentation meets regulatory requirements. Understand the impact of
transection and merging of plots on building permits and code implementations, the
outcomes of subdivision Change Request, and offering feedback and
recommendations as it concerns the authority’s regulations in place.
Technical Support: Provide expert guidance to developers, architects, and the public
on urban and building-related policies, building code, procedures, and best practices.
Collaboration: Work closely with urban planners, designers, engineers, and other
professionals to integrate architectural solutions into broader planning initiatives.
Community Engagement: Participate in public meetings and outreach efforts to
communicate building regulations details, and gather community feedback.
Policy Development: Contribute to the formulation and revision of urban design
policies, codes, and guidelines promoting sustainable urban spaces.
Research: Stay updated on trends and changes in building codes, zoning regulations,
and urban design to provide informed recommendations.
Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
Comprehensive knowledge of local and regional building codes and zoning laws.
Experience with sustainable design practices in urban context.
Professional Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong collaboration and negotiation skills, enabling effective teamwork with diverse
stakeholders.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field.

Familiarity with community engagement and public outreach processes.
