ROLE OVERVIEW
Strategic Leadership and Planning
- Leading strategic initiatives and developing standard operating procedures to maintain a stable ranger force that supports the Land Division's business strategies.
Compliance and Surveillance
- Overseeing compliance operations in the field to enforce regulations and protect natural resources, including managing responses to environmental emergencies.
Operational Execution:
- Implementing operational plans, maintaining conservation compliance infrastructure, and ensuring resources are effectively utilized.
Training and Capacity Building
- Assessing training needs and facilitating the development of courses to enhance ranger skills and effectiveness.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Building and maintaining relationships with authorities, organizations, and stakeholders to align with KSA and NEOM-wide legislative requirements. · Reporting and Technological Integration: Generating regular progress reports and exploring innovative technological tools to enhance operational efficiency.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Training and Capacity Building
Coordinate comprehensive training programs and capacity-building initiatives to enhance rangers' skills and ensure compliance with best practice standards.
Team Leadership and Motivation
Motivate and manage the ranger team, promoting a culture of high performance and development while ensuring a sound working environment.
Performance Management
Set clear performance objectives, provide necessary support, evaluate staff performance, and offer regular feedback to foster professional growth.
Strategic Relationships
Assist senior management in maintaining relations with government, international entities, and the community to support ranger operations and develop joint programs.
Monitoring of Progress & Efficacy
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor and report on the progress and efficacy of compliance activities and conservation efforts, ensuring goals are met and standards are upheld.
Emergency Response Coordination
- Coordinate responses to environmental and other emergencies, ensuring timely and effective management of incidents.
Financial Management
- Oversee the budget preparation and daily financial administration of projects, ensuring resources are utilized efficiently and effectively.
Stakeholder Communication
- Maintain and build robust communication and relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to effectively implement coordinated conservation efforts.
Progress Reporting
- Regularly generate and communicate detailed reports on the progress and achievements of the ranger program to the NNR Compliance Manager.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of proven experience in protected area compliance / ranger management / training of rangers,
protected area operations management and design and implementation of work schedules.
- 10+ years of experience in ranger programs.
- Proficiency with GIS platforms and ranger aid applications (e.g. Esri Survey123, Earth Ranger, SMART).
- Experience working in various field settings during different hours and seasons.
- Background in compliance coordination and/or team management.
- Familiarity with developing comprehensive compliance and reserve/nature management plans.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with a proven track record of managing multiple projects and tasks.
- Creative and agile problem-solving skills, capable of adapting to changing conditions and challenges.
- Willingness and ability to conduct fieldwork in Arabian desert, savanna, and montane arid environments
for extended periods of time.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Management, Report writing, Planning and Leadership Skills.
- A creative and agile approach to workplace challenges, able to adapt and find solutions to rapidly
changing conditions and challenges.
- A proven ability to motivate staff and provide appropriate developmental opportunities that increase
operational performance.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Natural Science or courses specifically focusing on ranger programs, safety and security,
- resource protection, threat analysis, evidence handling and human resource management.
