Duties and Responsibilities
As Chief Accountant, I will assume full responsibility for the efficient operation of the Finance Department in line with Six Senses financial operating standards. In conjunction with the Director of Finance and other executives, I will contribute to setting the strategic direction of the resort. My duties and responsibilities include:
- Establishing and maintaining effective management of the resort’s accounting practices, ensuring the flow of accurate financial information and reporting to all divisions and departments, the Home Office, and the owners.
- Preparing the annual budget and capital expenditure plan and monitoring actual financial performance against the budget.
- Overseeing financial transactions including the approval of purchase requisitions and orders, payments, petty cash, payroll, audits, and other financial processes.
- Ensuring internal controls are in place to comply with financial, legal, and taxation requirements, while maintaining effective financial, payroll, and information systems.
- Responding promptly to audit issues and overseeing corrective actions to resolve any deficiencies.
- Continuously improving financial functions in alignment with Six Senses practices.
- Ensuring that purchasing practices support the Six Senses Sustainability and Eat With Six Senses platforms and guidelines.
- Conducting vendor/supplier vetting, stocktakes, and storage assessments at required intervals to ensure proper inventory management and compliance with Six Senses standards.
- Promoting a cost-conscious culture through regular training and financial awareness.
- Ensuring that all legal, statutory, and financial requirements are met and that reporting systems, contractual obligations, security protocols, product and service standards, host management practices, and budget controls are effectively implemented, monitored, and maintained for the successful operation of the hotel.
Qualifications
To execute the position of Chief Accountant, I must possess the necessary qualifications, technical skills, and experience in a similar role within luxury hospitality, with a proven track record of success. The requirements include:
- A college education plus a minimum of two years of hotel accounting or auditing experience, including supervisory or management exposure; or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and over five years of experience in hotel accounting is preferred.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification is preferred.
- Fluency in English is required; additional language proficiency is considered an advantage.
