Job Description
Summary Introduction:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategic GIS Business Analyst to bridge the gap between business needs and geospatial technologies within smart city projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for gathering requirements, analyzing processes, and recommending GIS-driven solutions to enhance urban services and decision-making. This role combines domain knowledge in urban planning or public services with practical GIS application experience, preferably using Esri tools.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise with business stakeholders, urban planners, and technical teams to gather and document GIS-related requirements.
Analyze and map current business processes and identify opportunities for GIS-enabled enhancements.
Translate user needs into functional and non-functional requirements for GIS applications and services.
Collaborate with GIS developers, data engineers, and architects to ensure alignment between business goals and GIS solutions.
Develop use cases, user stories, and business process models supporting urban GIS applications.
Support testing and validation of GIS solutions to ensure they meet stakeholder expectations and performance standards.
Conduct training sessions, prepare user documentation, and support change management for GIS platform adoption.
Track and report on project milestones, risks, and KPIs related to GIS initiatives.
Stay current with geospatial trends and contribute insights for innovation and continuous improvement in smart city services.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS, Urban Planning, Business Analysis, Geography, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in business analysis with at least 2 years in GIS or smart city domains.
Familiarity with urban data, spatial analytics, or geospatial application development.
Experience with Esri tools (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Web AppBuilder, or Experience Builder).
Ability to interpret maps, data models, and GIS data layers for business analysis purposes.
Proficiency in requirement gathering techniques, user journey mapping, and wireframing tools.
Strong communication skills to facilitate workshops and engage diverse stakeholders.
Excellent documentation and report writing capabilities.
Bilingual (English and Arabic) is highly desirable
Certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA) or GIS (e.g., Esri Technical Certification).
Experience in smart city platforms, location intelligence, or urban mobility planning.
Understanding of open data standards, geospatial KPIs, and public sector digital services.
