At Air Products, our purpose is to bring people together to reimagine what’s possible, collaborate and innovate solutions to the world’s most significant energy and environmental sustainability challenges. Grow with us as we embark on building tomorrow together by being the safest, most diverse and most profitable industrial gas company in the world.

Reimagine What’s Possible

Pre-Commissioning Phase:

  • Develop detailed pre-commissioning procedures, schedules, and checklists aligned with project timelines and system readiness.
  • Perform and lead system walkdowns to verify installations conform to design, ensuring punch list closure and turnover readiness.
  • Interface with engineering, construction, and QA/QC teams to resolve technical queries and site observations efficiently.
  • Execute pre-commissioning activities such as: air blowing, water flushing, steam blowing, lube oil flushing, chemical cleaning, passivation, disinfection, and refractory dry out.
  • Ensure safe loading of chemicals (e.g., HCL, H₂SO₄, NaOH, MDEA).
  • Oversee adsorbent, catalyst, perlite loading, and random packing reinstatement.
  • Conduct Gross air and nitrogen leak testing, inerting, and motor solo run tests (LV/HV).
  • Conduct HP & LP nitrogen leak tests on process systems and ensure system inerting protocols are safely followed.
  • Update system completion status using tracking software (e.g., GOC/MC-Plus/ICAPS).
  • Participate in SIMOPS reviews, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and ensure SWP/LOTO compliance.
  • Support client handover meetings by validating pre-commissioning dossiers and system readiness.

Commissioning Phase:

  • Prepare commissioning test plans, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and SWIMS.
  • Define system boundaries for Mechanical Completion (MC) and commissioning deliverables.
  • Participate in project commissioning planning and schedule development with the execution team.
  • Lead PSSR and final walkdowns, validating completion against punch lists and ensuring turnover compliance.
  • Validate control systems, logic testing (DCS/PLC), and perform shutdown/permissive checks.
  • Manage the safe commissioning and testing of rotating equipment: gas turbines, steam turbines, turbo expanders, compressors, blowers, and pumps.
  • Oversee auxiliary and utility systems: HVAC (PACU, AHU), Fire Water System, Potable Water System, Cooling Tower.
  • Conduct system functional testing including mode transitions and logic verifications per control narratives and cause-effect matrices.
  • Perform startup operations including cold, warm, and safe shutdown, and BMS logic functionality.
  • Oversee resin loading, chemical operations, and water treatment system commissioning.
  • Conduct plant performance testing (OTP), reliability runs, and operator training.
  • Identify and troubleshoot system failures, verify alarms/interlocks, and support RCA (Root Cause Analysis).
  • Report progress to the Commissioning Manager, track punch status, and compile commissioning dossiers for project closeout.

Core Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of pre-commissioning procedures and test protocols.
  • Proven track record in loop testing, instrumentation validation, and DCS logic reviews.
  • Strong leadership in safety, SIMOPS, and handover documentation.
  • Expert in using completion and tracking software (e.g., GOC, MC-Plus, ICAPS).
  • Effective communicator and collaborator in multidisciplinary, multinational teams.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical, Process, or Electrical Engineering)
  • Postgraduate certifications in process systems, commissioning safety, or project execution (preferred but not mandatory)

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant experience in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup of large-scale industrial plants, including oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and process industries.
  • Proven experience in handling commissioning activities for the following systems:
    • Air Separation Units (ASU)
    • Steam Methane Reformers (SMR)
    • Sulfur Recovery Units (SRU), Acid Gas Treatment Units (AGRU/TGTU)
    • Combined Cycle Power Plants, HRSG, and Gas Turbines
    • Demineralization and Cooling Water Systems
    • Flare systems, HVAC, and chemical dosing units
  • Demonstrated expertise in pre-commissioning operations such as air blowing, steam blowing, lube oil flushing, chemical cleaning, and nitrogen leak testing
  • Proficiency in using completion and turnover tools (e.g., MC-PLUS, ICAPS, GOC, GO Completion)
  • Familiarity with control systems testing, loop checks, and DCS/PLC logic validation
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols, LOTO, SIMOPS, and work permit systems
  • Hands-on experience in operator training, SOP preparation, and performance testing (OTP)
